“I love Getxo because it has the sea and the mountains close at hand. I love to go to have a drink and a bite in the Old Port, that is a very beautiful spot. The skatepark has been very important to me. I spent a lot of time there as I was growing and it is where I discovered surfing. This part of Getxo is very symbolic in my life."
Sisters and the City
"It was love at first sight between Getxo and Sisters and the City. Five neighbourhoods of great architectural beauty and different atmospheres. It is a real pleasure to spend time discovering its beaches, strolling along its streets with its elegant mansions, enjoying a good meal, walking along its dramatic clifftops, and ending up in its delightful shops. The perfect spot for a getaway. Don’t forget to have a kalimotxo [red wine & coke] in Algorta’s Old Port, where, as the story goes. it was invented. That sparkling drink is part of our culture and is one of our favourites."

“Since I was a child, I have been lucky enough to enjoy lots of cultural events that have helped me to become who I am today. Muxikebarri is one of my favourite areas of Getxo and where you can enjoy first-class music. It is a magical place brimming with excitement and dreams. Getxo combines the best of a city and a small town, as it hosts famous festivals in a welcoming and lively setting.”

“The charter town is a perfect place to live: packed with green areas and beautiful mansions and houses built by the gentry a century ago. One of my favourite buildings is the Castaways House and Lighthouse of Arriluze, on the Arriluze Dock.”
“What I think stands out about Gexto are its beaches and its cliffs. In summer, I love to enjoy the sunsets from Azkorri beach with my friends. Las Paellas is one of the best events in Getxo. It is an international paella competition held in Aixerrota. Hundreds of groups of friends take part to compete for the Best Paella.”
“My favorite place in Getxo is the Paseo de Zugatzarte, I love it. It has a lot of meaning for me, because I have lived here since I was born. I have pleasant memories of being with my parents and siblings walking to the Old Port every day.”

“Whenever I am visited by a friend coming to Getxo for the very first time, I always recommend three must-see outings: the wonderful promenade along Ereaga Beach, the breath-taking Bizkaia Bridge, which I think you simply have to see, and the stunning cliffs at La Galea because they provide some unbeatable vantage points and views.”

“I’ve been passionate about cooking ever since I was a child. My favourite places in Getxo … I love the Old Port - Puerto Viejo, I think it is one of the prettiest spots to visit because it has a certain charm that other places can’t match. I also like going for a walk on the beach in Las Arenas; hardly anyone used to come here, but now it’s very clean, the water has also improved.”
“Ereaga is one of my favourite places in Getxo. I come here to see and listen to the sea and to watch the sunsets. I have spent a lot of time in Ereaga since coming here as a child with my parents. We used to enjoy bites to eat, they used to have beers at the local establishments dotted around and we used to catch the waves at high tide. We come these days to listen to live music in the local venues in Getxo. And, for sure, Ereaga, is where I come the most whenever here.
“The mythological thriller La Cueva de Mari is set in my hometown, Getxo, with a special focus on Azkorri due to its perfect setting for a shocking scenario. The San Nicolás Library holds a special significance for me as it is where some of my stories came to life. My daughter's first steps on the Ereaga promenade is a cherished memory of mine, with the waves crashing in the background and the scent of sea salt in the air. Getxo offers the perfect combination of urban conveniences and small-town charm, providing a blend of city living and quaintness that is truly unique.”
