Social benefits

All those registered as resident in Getxo are eligible for different types of social and economic assistance to cover basic needs if they cannot do this by their own means.

These grants are the Income Guarantee Grant, the Complementary Benefit for Housing, Emergency Social Aid, and Social Inclusion Aid.

In some cases applicants may be eligible for more than one type of assistance, whilst in other cases one form of assistance excludes them from others.

Income Guarantee Grant

This is monthly financial benefit for covering the basic needs of individuals and families who do not have sufficient resources and which aims to help them find employment.

This benefit is available to those who have no resources or the resources that they have are insufficient for covering their basic needs and who meet a certain set of requirements.

The unemployed, those in work with limited means, pensioners, or those receiving other types of benefit, etc are eligible.

To avail of it, the applicant must have been registered for at least three years on the municipal census of any municipality in the Basque Country, must be older than 23 years of age and have no economic means. The right to this benefit is part of a socio-employment integration process that allows the people who receive it to exercise their right to find employment.

Also, those who have been registered on the municipal census for one year and can provide evidence of 5 years of remunerated employment can apply for the benefit.
